Donating my eggs despite previous small size of the placenta problems

    Hello, there!

You see… I’m 33 now and I’ve had 4 children of mine so far. My first pregnancy was a twin one, but after some time I went through several complications over my placenta (it was too little and the babies couldn’t feed properly). So, when I was 4.5 months pregnant, my babies stopped growing… I had an emergency C-section done when I was exactly 28 weeks pregnant and my babies lived for approximately 15 days one of them, and the other no more than 20 days. They passed out because of extremely low birth weight (one of them was 450 gr and the other one 830 gr). I went through a lot that time and I’m still carrying that baggage…

Next year, I tried again and got pregnant for the second time, but the same happened… When I was 5 months pregnant, my baby was growing so slow that he almost didn’t gain weight. We made it to month 7th and a half, and then my baby was born with 2.100 kg. Luckily he didn’t need an incubator and was healthier than expected. I had another C-section done this time, but was matters is that my baby is now 6 years old and as healthy as a horse!

3 years later, I got pregnant for the 3rd time and even though at first there was no problem with my placenta, it started finally, though a bit later than in previous pregnancies. When I was 6 months pregnant, my amniotic sac broke, so I had to remain hospitalized for a month. Doctors said my baby wasn’t developing… so I had third C-section ever done, and my daughter was born when she was 6 months old. She was taken to a neonatal intensive care unit just because her weight was too low (a little over 1.350 kg)… I took her home when she was 2 kg and today she’s 3 years old and loves her brother a whole lot!

After sharing my whole story with you all, here comes my real question: do you think I will be accepted into an egg donor program after this? Will my eggs put the recipient in danger as it happened to me? My problem was related to placental development, not to my eggs (that’s what I think). I have my tubes tied as well, would it be a problem too? I’d like to help other women in a situation similar to mine in the past…

    Thanks for hearing me!

    Hello Mother-of-2,

Requirements to donate your eggs may vary from country to country, so my advice is that you choose a fertility clinic near your home and visit it in order to ask for the conditions to apply as an egg donor. In Spain, for example, the age limit for donating eggs is established at age 35 and there is no need to having had children previously, although it is a plus since it is an indicator of your fertility potential.

If you are willing to donate your eggs, my advice is that you visit a fertility center as soon as possible, since you are 33 and many clinics stop accepting candidates from age 35 onwards (although, as I said, it varies from country to country). The process may take a rather long period of time, since you have to be pre-screened in order to check your good state of health. Having your tubes tied does not have an influence on egg donation, because you still produce eggs and they will be collected via follicular puncture aided by a needle that is injected directly into your ovary.

Before getting started, you are advised to know how does the process work perfectly, as well as the risks involved. However, they may vary from clinic to clinic, so don’t hesitate to ask them any doubt that may arise.

I hope I have been able to help,
