Regular menstrual cycle after an abortion

  1.  Megan Huyck

I had an abortion with the abortion pill on December, 2015. I went for an ultrasound scan and my uterus was clear and clean… Next month my period showed up as as expected (I’ve always had regular menstrual periods). When it finished, I had safe sex 2 days later (using a condom). At first, we both were almost dry, so he penetrated me once without protection. Then he put on a condom, but afterwards we realized the condom had slipped off. We stopped, so there was no ejaculation… anyway, am I likely to be pregnant because of this? Is it useful if I use the calendar-based contraceptive method?

    Hello Megan,

if you put on a condom and there was no ejaculation, chances for you to be pregnant are low. However, there is a small percentage, since, as you said, the condom slipped off. But, again, given that there was no ejaculation, the most probable is that pregnancy has not occurred.

The calendar-based contraceptive method is a common family planning method, although it is not as accurate as other birth control methods, since you have to strictly control your menstrual cycle with it. Besides, even the slightest hormone fluctuation in the woman could negatively affect the accuracy of this method, with it going almost unnoticed.

The calendar-based contraceptive method, rhythm method or Knaus–Ogino method is about calculating the woman’s most fertile days in order to avoid having sex during those days.

I hope I have been able to help,
