Slow growing embryos in IVF
Hi there, I’m currently on my IVF cycle and have had just 3 embryos retrieved… and besides they are growing slowly, as doctor said. Tomorrow I will have the 3 of them transferred… What are my chances of getting pregnant? Do I have any chance even though they are growing slowly?February 14, 2016 at 5:31 pm
when someone talks about “slow growing embryos”, they refer to the following: during embryo culture, the number of cells is lower than the corresponding number for the stage of embryo development in which the embryo is at the moment. This will have an impact on embryo quality and grading protocols, since these embryos will be assigned a lower class than that usually given.
When we talk of “low quality embryos”, we refer to the fact that their potential for implantation is lower if compared to high quality embryos, being A the maximum grading an embryo can be qualified with. However, lower classes do not translate into fewer chances of implantation. You will never be performed an embryo that did not have implantation potential. Thus, even though the results obtained are not those expected, you still have odds of becoming pregnant, especially if 3 embryos are going to be transferred.
I hope I have been able to help,
