When taking about male sterility due to a post-testicular factor, what is meant are alterations in the spermatozoa once they’ve been produced in the testicles. They can be caused by problems in the displacement through the vasa deferentia.
When facing a sterility problem, it’s common to ask what is causing it. The causes may be: male infertility, female infertility, combined causes (both member of the couple have problems) or unexplained infertility.
Sexual dysfunction is defined as the incapacity of a man to maintain his penis erect for long enough to have full sexual intercourse. It causes male sterility because of post-testicular factor.
Artificial insemination is recommended in couples suffering from mild infertility problems or in cases where a cause for infertility is found, while artificial insemination by donor is indicated for single women, lesbian couples, or severe male infertility cases.
Depending on the nature of the problem, male sterility may be due to several factors, such as: endocrine factors, testicular factors, post-testicular factors, and, finally, sperm factors.
