Women who need radiation therapy to fight cancer may see their fertility compromised, especially if it is directed at the pelvic organs.
In particular, radiation can affect the ovaries and destroy the ovarian reserve. The uterus may also be affected and then not be able to maintain pregnancy.
Therefore, it is very important that the woman knows all the alternatives to preserve her fertility before starting cancer treatment.
