Anembryonic pregnancy or hollow egg is a very common problem caused by a failure in the fertilization of the embryo.
It is diagnosed by ultrasound in week 7 of pregnancy, in which no image of the fetus inside the gestational sac or heartbeat is detected. On the other hand, this yolk sac does produce the beta HCG hormone, so the pregnancy test is positive even in the absence of the embryo.
