The MACS sperm selection technique allows the separation of spermatozoa that have initiated apoptosis from healthy spermatozoa. Because of this, MACS is an improvement on traditional sperm selection methods and its main indications are:
- Increased percentage of spermatozoa with DNA fragmentation.
- Failure in previous cycles.
- Low fertilisation rate or poor embryo quality in previous treatments, which cannot be related to the oocytes.
- Idiopathic repeat miscarriage.
The aim of using the MACS technique in these cases is to improve the quality of the semen sample, in order to increase the chances of success in these patients.
