Curettage or scraping of the walls of the uterus

The curettage procedure (D&C) is used to remove the embryonic tissue that remains in the lining of the uterus after a miscarriage or spontaneous abortion. In some cases, it is used to induce an abortion.

As one shall see in the picture above, a curette is used to scrape the uterine lining, hence the name Curettage.
