Ultrasound is a very easy to perform technique that allows you to see the development of the foetus throughout the pregnancy. Normally, three ultrasound scans are performed during pregnancy, one in each trimester of gestation. In addition, ultrasound scans are usually performed at 12, 20 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.
It must be made clear that a normal ultrasound does not always mean that the foetus is normal, as there are anomalies and malformations in the foetus that are not visible through the ultrasound scanner.
In any case, there are various types of ultrasound scans depending on the image they provide. The traditional ultrasound is 2D, i.e. two-dimensional, and its image is less clear than in other ultrasound scans.
If a 3D ultrasound is performed, in addition to observing the foetus, volume and colour will also be added. Finally, if you opt for a 4D or 4D ultrasound, the image will be much sharper and you will be able to see the baby's movement.
