How does IVF egg retrieval work?

Egg harvesting in IVF is done by surgery, through a procedure called ovum pick-up (OPU) or follicle puncture. It is not painful, as it is done under anesthesia (sedation) and does not take too long.

After a few hours for recovery, patients can come back home and continue with their normal lifestyle.
