Anorexia and pregnancy complications

Hey everyone! I hope you all are doing well. My name is Monika and I am 35 years old. Due to being an anorexic patient, who didn’t have her AF on time, it has been very difficult for me to conceive. However, it was definitely my mistake that I didn’t visit the doctors. Seeking help is very important. Anyways, after 4 years of TTC and many BFN tests, I finally went to the doctor. After doing several tests he came up with a conclusion. According to him, my ovary reserve is extremely poor. Has anyone else gone through this? I need serious advice as to what I should do. Some help would really help. Thank you in advance.

  2. Dear monikaa,

Amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods) might result in women and girls when their body fat falls below the necessary threshold for menstruation and maintenance of ovulation. The body considers that it does’t have or receive the required nutrients for maintaining a baby and therefore ceases to ovulate. In other words, anorexia can lead to female infertility for this reason.

However, if you recover from anorexia, start nourishing your body adequately, normal menses are expected to resume. When you start having normal periods, it means that your body is ovulating again, and this translates into higher chances of conceiving.

If you continue experiencing trouble TTC in spite of the weight restoration and the normal menstrual periods, my advice is that you visit a fertility specialist, as you very well did. The next step is to ask your doctor for further advice on the best fertility treatment or option to finally fulfill your dream of having a baby.

I hope I have been able to help,

    Best wishes

  3. Low ovarian reserve means, when there is a decrease in the eggs. Generally, this happens with the increasing age. One can go for IVF process, but it totally depends on the number of eggs and its quality. Low ovarian eggs have low chances of getting pregnant and miscarriages. Follow instructions and strict healthy diet which can help to get pregnant.

  4. Thank you for the advice. I did consult a fertility specialist, recently. I was curious to know if IUI or IVF would work for me. The doctor told me that the chances were very low! Also, if IVF did work for me the chances of miscarriage were very high. So I was a little bit discouraged. My husband then got me in touch with another clinic as well. This clinic had a whole process through which I had to pass. So I first emailed to them my documents and then I was called for the first free meeting. In this visit I was medically tested as well. After the tests, I then met with the doctors who have suggested that I should consider DE option. I was happy that at least there is some hope. So I am fully prepared to take this step. However, it would be nice to hear experiences. Thank you once again.
