Hello everyone, I need your help. I´ve been married to my wonderful husband for 5 years and we have been trying to get pregnant for a year and a half now, we had a miscarriage a couple of months ago and finally decided it was time to get some help. I went to a fertility specialist and she told me that my husband needed his sperm washed and that would increase our chances of getting pregnant. I understood we had to get IUI, has anyone gone thru it? I also need clinic recommendations. TIA ?

  3. Hey, I got IUI by donor´s sperm, so I can tell you about my experience. I started the journey with many tests, I am a single mom and kinda felt alone thru the process. The staff and nurses were absolutely incredible, I felt understood and they guided me step by step. I was doing my treatment at Vivere Arizona Reproductive Institute. I got pregnant on the third try so it was kind of expensive but way less than IVF would have been. Let me know how it all goes!

  4. Hello Blueislife21,

If a fertility specialist recommends washing the sperm, this indicates that there have been some parameters in your husband’s seminogram that are not entirely normal, and with this technique, they can obtain the spermatozoa with the best motility and morphology and therefore higher chances to achieve pregnancy.

This technique is called capacitation of sperm cells, and it consists of dividing the sample thru density gradients to obtain the motile sperm separated from the rest of the components of semen.

If doctors have asses that you don´t have any functional problems in your uterus and fallopian tubes the simplest technique would be AI, in which your husband´s washed sperm would be inserted via a canula into your uterus for fertilization.

I recommend you read the following article, in it, we explain what this technique is and how it´s performed: Sperm capacitation

    I hope I have helped,

    Best regards
