My Period Is 3 Days Late with Milky White Discharge… Pregnancy!?

    Hello my dear friends,

I stopped using Cyclofem last month, but I’ve been using it for 1 year. From August this year onwards, I haven’t used any contraceptive method again. Now my period is 3 days late and 5 days ago I had a pinkish to milky discharge, although it was a very small quantity, and stomach ache. The question is today I have this kind of mucus again, but this time is white, almost clear and stretchy. Apart from that signs, I don’t have any other typical pregnancy symptom (no nausea, no vomiting…) , but I have a constant need to urinate.

Please, give some guidance because I’m really willing to have a baby!

    Thanks

  2. Hello,

You are likely to be pregnant, but the only way you can be sure is by taking a pregnancy test. If more than 15 days after having unsafe sex have passed and you’ve fallen pregnant, the test will be positive without doubt.

    • Hello Sandra, my husband and I are trying to conceive but my concern is this:

My last period started on March, 17. Then we had unprotected sex 11 days later (March, 28) and then again after 4 days (April, 1) which was on day 15 of my cycle. Then on April, 4 I spotted a little bit when I went to the toilet. This is very strange as I was on day 19 of my cycle, so it was too early for my period to show up.

Can you tell me what’s going on? I think it is too early for pregnancy, isn’t it? I don’t think fertilization has already happened…

      Thanks.

    • Dear karoline,

if you’ve engaged into unsafe sexual intercourse with ejaculation inside the vagina on days 15 and 19 of your cycle—a woman’s most fertile days—, chances of pregnancy exist and therefore the spotting you’ve seen may be implantation bleeding. However, implantation bleeding occurs usually in a concrete period of time and not spreads throughout several days randomly. Keeping this is mind, it is likely to be due to some kind of hormonal imbalance or menstrual irregularity.

My advice is that you wait up until your period due date. If it doesn’t start when expected (between April, 19 and 22), then take a pregnancy test to rule out any chance of pregnancy.

      Regards

If you’ve had unprotected sex, then yes, maybe your period is missing due to pregnancy. My advice is that you take a pregnancy test.

I hope I have been able to help,

For how long have you been trying to conceive? Keep in mind that one year is considered a normal time period before visiting a fertility specialist.

      Don’t quit trying!

  6. I had my period last 10/27, and it is now 12/4 and I didn’t have my period, I remember about 2 weeks of my cycle, i never had my white mens which is usually the sign before having my menstruation 2 weeks prior to my AF, i was sick the whole week. On 11/20 my boyfriend came home, and we had protected sex, and 11/25 at first he inserted his in to my ****** without protection for a few seconds, then uses a condom he always ejaculates outside, and after that day we groomed his dog and I got sick for 2 days. 11/24 is the day that I was supposed to have my period, and it didn’t show up, and on 11/29 i had white thick discharge for just a small amount of time and I was thinking that I just ovulated late, and during my bus trip I had this urge to vomit, and had to go down to the bus and ended up puking on the grass, so for 11/30 I had a little clear discharge that day, and on 12/1 I had a pinch brown discharge and it’s 12/4 now no signs of other symptoms, and just now I have been peeing a lot this morning, but I was drinking lots of water today. we also took PT 12/1 9 days since our last intercourse on 11/25 and when I peed on the PT, the T line showed first and then disappeared and the C line showed thick line. what could be the reason? am I pregnant or not? also I am also planning to go for another test this coming friday to make sure, now I am 10 days late, and I’m all stressed for the past week now, I am always regular and have never missed a cycle, my cycle is 28-29 days

    • Dear hienkz,

If you didn’t have unprotected sex earlier than on 11/25, it’s very unlikely that you’re pregnant unless you tell me you had unprotected sex before. Anyways, it’s only been one cycle, so it’s unlikely.

If you do not want an unplanned pregnancy to occur, I strongly recommend that you have a look at our Guide to Birth Control Methods, and choose the one that is most suitable for you.

      I hope this helps,

      Best wishes

    • Thanks for the response, what could be other possible reasons aside from pregnancy? could it be stress? or does it really happens that there is a time in your life that you will experience a missed period?

    • Yes, there exist other reasons aside from pregnancy that can lead to a delayed period. If you miss a complete cycle, my advice is that you go visit your doctor to run a routine blood test and have your overall state of health evaluated. It is common for a woman’s menstrual period to come later than expected from time to time due to periods of stress, for example, but it ends up showing up eventually.

The most common reasons behind a missed period (other than pregnancy) include:

      – Major weight loss
      – Excessive exercise
      – Stress
      – Thyroid irregularities
      – PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
      – Gluten intolerance (Celiac Disease)
      – Using Birth Control Methods
      Early menopause

    • Hello Nancy,

If you had unprotected intercourse, then yes, there are chances for you being pregnant. But if you didn’t, then there’s no reason to be concerned. It’s normal for a period to be a bit late.

Take a pregnancy test if it doesn’t show up in a few more days.

    • Hello chall6,

Have you taken another test? If not, it may just be a delay in your period… It happens sometimes for reasons related to hormonal imbalances, stress, etc. There’s no reason to be concerned if it happens from time to time.

  8. Hi, for the past 8 days I have been getting a white milky discharge and it seems to be every couple hours give or take and it is quite a lot, I haven’t experienced this much before. A day before this I wiped and noticed some blood but it was just the once. With this I have backache, aches and pains, tiredness etc. I am not due for another 3 days, it surely cannot be ovulation as it doesn’t be this long and the only other possibility I am thinking is I’m pregnant? Any help would be grateful thank you

    • Dear sandra7861,

The question is, did you have unprotected intercourse? If so, then the answer is yes, you may be pregnant. The symptoms you’ve described can be actually associated with pregnancy. If not, it’s probably the PMS syndrome. Anyways, you said your period is not due for another 3 days, so my advice is that you wait and see if it goes missing for 4-5 days and then take a pregnancy test.

      I hope this helps,

    • Dear davonna1115,

You’re only 3 days late for your period, so maybe it’s still a bit too early as to take a pregnancy test. My advice is that you give it two more days to make sure that your period doesn’t show up. Anyways, if you’ve been TTC for 2 months, then the answer is yes: you may be pregnant.

      Best of luck!

The last time I got menstruation was February 10 it’s is very 2days early before I had my period for 3 days. I used pills before and I stopped it on last December. Then we try to use calendar method and we had sex on March 7, I think it’s safe but until now I’m waiting for my period.. I’ve been delayed for 3days for 30 day cycle. It is possible to get pregnant? Thanks in advance.

    • Dear Krishiel,

Unfortunately, the fertility awareness method (FAM) is not considered amongst the most accurate birth control methods. It is estimated that 24 out of 100 women become pregnant annually in spite of using the FAM. The effectiveness depends on how regular your cycles are, how reliably you track your cycles, etc. In short, it’s effective for couples that always use it correctly and consistently above all.

  11. Hi! I am worried these past few days. I am 4 days delayed, I recently became sexually active, however, we used contraceptives (condom) and my partner didn’t ejaculate inside me (I am sure of this because I gave him a handjob and that’s when he ejaculated). I made sure to wash my hands properly before touching it in any other parts of my body. Also, we did this on Day 22 of my cycle (March 6, 2018). He is also sure he didn’t ejaculated while in action. But I became worried because I expect my period will start on March 15 or 16. It’s already March 19. I am having this yellowish discharge and usually this is a “sign” for me that my period is coming. I also have breakouts on my face. Is it possible that I am pregnant? Or am I just stressing out that’s why my period’s not coming?

    • Dear Daisy Lee,

According to what you described, the chances for you being pregnant are considerably low. Where there’s no ejaculation inside, pregnancy cannot take place. So I guess your period is missing just because you’re stressing out too much. My advice is that you just relax and wait patiently until it shows up. Sometimes, even in women who are regular, your menses may come a little bit late for reasons related to stress, hormonal imbalances, etc.

      I hope this helps,

      Best wishes

  12. Hi! I’ve also been recently sexually active. The first one was unprotected on Feb 3 but no ejaculation inside. I had my normal period on Feb 23-26 with cramps and blood clots. But I kind felt bloated so I took pregnancy tests 5 times on March 5,6,7,8 and 14. They were all negative. The second time was last March 24 and it was protected. I’m supposed to be having my period on March 26 and until now it’s still not here. I also took another test on March 27 still negative. I’ve been really worried about my period delay. Hope you can help.

    • Dear jbelly,

If you had your period on February and then you had protected intercourse throughout March, it’s very unlikely that you’re pregnant. A missing period doesn’t always translate into pregnant. Moreover, if you took a pregnancy test and it came back negative, there’s no reason for you to be concerned.

      I hope this helps,

  13. I’ve been trying to look all over the internet for some answer. I’m hoping that I can find some here. I have a cycle of 26 days. The first day of my last period was 03/27/18 it lasted about 4 days. I had unprotected sex April 7, I should’ve ovulated around the 8th or 9th of April. Since then I’ve having cramps that last about an hour as if AF is on her way but currently she is two days late. My expect period was April 22nd. I have no symptoms that suggested my period is coming. All I have is a milky lotion like discharge with some fullness of breast but that seem to have deflated this morning. Minor cramping and insomnia. I took a test this morning but it was negative. Im wondering if I tested to early? Any suggestions?

    • Hello shayri,

If you had unprotected sex during your fertile window, it is possible that you are pregnant. However, if the date of your expected period was April 22nd, a pregnancy test could still show a false negative result. If your period is still missing in 4-5 days, my advice is that you take another test. If it’s negative then it means that you’re not pregnant and the delay it’s just due to some kind of imbalance.

If you don’t want to get pregnant accidentally, I would suggest that you use a birth control method that is comfortable for you and your partner. Here’s a complete guide to all of them: Which Contraceptives Really Work? – Types of Birth Control Methods.

  15. Hi I have a few questions for I am really bothered. I’ve been recently sexually about 3 months ago. My concern is that I only had sex once this April (pull out method) and it was on the 29th which is already my Day 33 of cycle (I’m usually 31 days, last month 33 days) so I’m already supposed to have my period by then and can be considered as safe period.and I think I already ovulated on Day 16. But it’s almost a week after and my menstruation still hasn’t come and I don’t feel any of my usual PMS. My last period was March 28, I was also unusually delayed that month but for only 2 days and I don’t think I conceived that month because we had protected sex and my period came. I was a regular before I became sexually active. What could be the reason of my skipped/delayed period?

  18. Hi there
Me and my partner have been having unprotected sex since I’ve had my implant removed on the 16th of April.
My period are normally really heavy and lasts 7 days and stopped on the 18th or April.
I had some light bleeding not much and only lasted 2 days (which was wierd)

Since then I’ve been having ‘cramp’ like symptoms and feeling sick most days but not actually being sick. The last 3 days i have had milky discharge and today was when I thought my period was due but it hasn’t come yet.

Was the short period my actually period or could it have been ‘implant bleeding’. Just a bit worried about taking a test as don’t want to get my hopes up if its negativs as I am trying to conceive

    • Hi Camila

It is possible that you are pregnant but the only way you will know is by taking the pregnancy test! As you period is already delayed then the time is right, and it is best to do this test in the morning using the first urine of the day.

Good luck with the test and hope you get your BFP.

      All the best
