Definition of GnRH antagonists

GnRH antagonists are artificially synthesized and are used to prevent the effect of the GnRH hormone.

The GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is a peptide hormone responsible for FSH and LH release by the pituitary gland.

Cetrorelix and ganirelix are two synthetic GnRH antagonists of clinical use.
