The hypothalamus secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in a pulsatile manner. This hormone exerts its action in the pituitary gland, where it stimulates the secretion of FSH and LH gonadotropins that will have their effects mainly in the gonads (testes or ovaries).
Thus, the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis is responsible for regulating the proper functioning of many processes related to reproduction.
