The concept of fertilization is defined as the union of the male gamete, the spermatozoon, with the female gamete or ovum. This union takes place in the fallopian tube.
When vaginal ejaculation occurs, millions of sperm are released, but only a few will make it to the fallopian tube. Once there, and if the woman is in her fertile days, the sperm will be able to interact with the egg.
Finally, a single sperm will be able to pass through the egg and fertilize it. From this moment on, the fertilized egg will be considered a zygote and will move through the fallopian tube dividing until it reaches the uterus.
