The use of the IUD is indicated for women who do not want to become pregnant at the moment and/or have painful menses and heavy bleeding. However, women who have irregular bleeding and the cause is not known or if there is a suspicion of a tumor of genius should not use the IUD. Nor should the IUD be inserted in women with endometritis after childbirth, endometriosis or presence of adhesions in the uterus.
Another situation in which the use of the IUD is contraindicated is in women who have recently suffered an infection in the pelvic area.
