Description
IVF Spain Madrid, formerly called Procreatec, is a private fertility clinic located near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid. This clinic was founded in 2008 by Dr. Jon Aizpurua.
The IVF Spain Madrid team is made up of 25 professionals from different fields: doctors and biologists specializing in Assisted Reproduction, nurses, urologists, anesthesiologists, psychologists, and Patient Care Professionals (APIS) in order to provide their patients with individualized and personalized treatment. Specifically, Dr. Rut Gómez de Segura is the medical director; while the laboratory is directed by embryologist Félix Rodríguez.
Approximately 70% of the patients who visit IVF Spain Madrid are international, so this center offers assistance in different languages: Spanish, English, French, German and Arabic.
On the other hand, IVF Spain Madrid has UNE 179007:2013 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications. If you need information on how to get to IVF-Spain, either by public or private transport, you can access this link.
History
The IVF Madrid center belongs to the IVF-Spain Group, which also includes the IVF-Donostia clinic in Guipúzcoa and IVF-Alicante, the main headquarters of the entire group.
In spite of only 10 years in operation, the IVF-Spain group has achieved great growth and expansion, which has allowed them to have large facilities and a large number of workers among gynecologists, embryologists, nurses, patient assistants (APIS), etc.
Recently, this group has also been awarded the IVF CLINIC AWARDS 2019 in the categories of Customer Service & Communication and Intimacy & Care. In addition, they have also won two iCIRA awards for research, quality, and image in assisted reproduction.
Facilities
IVF-Spain Madrid is located in the district of Chamartín, in the Hispanoamérica district. Its facilities are modern and are distributed over two floors plus a basement for the exclusive use of the staff.
Below, all the areas of the clinic are detailed, with the equipment and technology available for carrying out fertility treatments.
Building and surroundings
All the services of IVF Spain Madrid are distributed over two floors of the building. The entrance to the clinic, as well as its interior, is adapted for people with reduced mobility. In the area of the stairs, there is an elevator to be able to go up and down the wheelchair.
On the other hand, parking in the same street as the clinic is complicated, although there is the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium parking lot a few meters away from IVF Spain Madrid.
Reception and waiting room
Just as you enter IVF Spain Madrid you will find the reception and the waiting room. This area of the clinic was renovated in 2015 and has a modern white counter and armchairs in the same color. Behind the reception desk, there is a staircase leading to the ground floor.
The waiting time in the room before going to the consultation is usually no more than 10-15 minutes. In addition, IVF Spain Madrid offers its patients water or coffee and also Wifi and television service to make the wait more enjoyable.
Apart from all this, on the ground floor of the center, there is another reception desk and an individual waiting room with two black armchairs for egg donors. This prevents patients from crossing paths with donors during their stay at the center.
Consultations
IVF Spain Madrid has 3 medical offices, all of which have an examination room and an articulated gynecological table. These clinics also have a washroom, toilet, paper, and soap dispenser.
The ultrasound machine they have is the Toshiba Xario 100 MX, a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine that also allows doppler-color and with a screen so that the woman can see the ultrasound.
IVF Spain Madrid has 4 gynecologists who are specialists in assisted reproduction and all of them offer care in Spanish and English. In addition, Dr. Maria Calomarde speaks French, Dr. Katharina Spies speaks French and German, and Dr. Meski speaks Arabic.
They are also on duty on weekends and holidays in case it is necessary to make any puncture or embryo transfer.
Nursing room
The blood collection or nursing room is located on the ground floor of IVF Spain Madrid. In this room, there is an armchair with armrests, a storage area for gauze, needles, etc., and a centrifuge.
Operating Room
The sterile area of IVF Spain Madrid, where the operating room, recovery boxes, and laboratories are located, is on the top floor. This area is accessed by a staircase and a door.
The operating room is large, has approximately 12m2, and is equipped with everything necessary to carry out fertility treatments and minor outpatient surgery. The resources available in this area are as follows:
- Accessory table.
- A Mitsubishi ultrasound machine that only does 2D scans.
- Fabius Anesthesia Administration System.
- Cardio-Aid 200-B defibrillator for fast and accurate defibrillation.
- Crash cart.
- Ultra-purified air line.
- Vacuum cleaner.
It should be noted that the operating table is not fixed, but is a mobile articulated stretcher with which the patient is transferred from the operating room to the recovery box. Therefore, the patient does not have to get up at any time until she is recovered.
Communication with the in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory is not direct, but it is necessary to go out to a common area within the surgical area.
In addition, the walls and floor of the operating room are designed so that dirt does not accumulate and maximum sterile conditions are maintained.
As for the staff involved in the operating theatre, there is the nurse, the gynecologist, the anesthetist, the assistant, and sometimes the biologist.
Laboratories
IVF Spain Madrid has two physically separate laboratories: the andrology laboratory and the IVF laboratory. However, most of the work is carried out in the IVF laboratory.
A total of 5 embryologists work in the laboratory area and all of them speak English and Spanish. In addition, embryologist Javier Garcia also speaks French. The laboratory team takes shifts for one of them to be on duty on weekends and holidays.
On the other hand, all the administrative laboratory work, as well as the changing rooms, is located in an external location, on the ground floor of the center.
Below, we comment on both laboratories:
Andrology Laboratory
This room is small and is where the sperm analysis and processing of seminal samples are performed. Specifically, the IVF Spain Madrid andrology laboratory carries out seminograms, sperm training and sperm sample freezing.
The resources available in the andrology laboratory are as follows:
- 1 Laminar flow hood.
- 1 Phase contrast microscope.
- 1 Incubator.
- 1 Centrifuge.
- 1 Fridge.
Therefore, this laboratory has all the necessary material to carry out the seminal procedures they offer their patients.
IVF Laboratory
The IVF laboratory is a large and elongated space of 30m2 and was last renovated in 2016.
The access doors to the laboratory are automatic by means of a movement sensor. This room has no windows, the light is very dim and the average temperature is about 20-24ºC, which are the necessary conditions for optimal embryo culture.
In addition, the IVF laboratory features ceramic furniture, PVC walls from clean rooms, rounded floor bases to prevent dirt from accumulating, and a ventilation system controlled by HEPA filters, and positive pressure. All these features make it possible to keep the area clean and sterile throughout the IVF laboratory.
In relation to the material and equipment available to carry out all assisted reproduction techniques, IVF Spain Madrid has the following resources:
- 2 Laminar flow hoods, both heated.
- 4 heated blocks.
- 2 inverted microscopes.
- 2 binocular magnifiers.
- 2 Microinjectors.
- 5 automatic pipettes.
- 2 Time-Lapse Incubators (Embryoscope).
- 3 sandwich-type incubators with independent compartments.
The traceability system of biological samples for monitoring, identification, and follow-up of the same is carried out through the double control in IVF Spain Madrid.
On the other hand, the technique used to freeze eggs and embryos is vitrification, and the method used to biopsy the embryos and analyze them genetically is by laser. This laser belongs to IVF Spain Madrid, and 4 of the 5 embryologists have the capacity to perform the embryo biopsy.
Recovery Rooms
IVF Spain Madrid has 2 individual recovery boxes, all of which have private toilets, although the sink is outside the toilet.
As we have already mentioned, these rooms are located in the sterile area next to the operating room and, in addition, the stretchers are portable and are the ones used in the operating room for operations.
In addition to the articulated stretcher, the furniture that can be found in the recovery box is a passenger seat, a mirror, a shelf, a sink, a soap, and a paper dispenser.
After each intervention, IVF Spain Madrid offers all its patients juice and some pastries for a better recovery.
Sperm collection room
On the ground floor of IVF Spain Madrid, there is a small room for obtaining semen samples.
The resources available here are a television with a video catalog, headphones, and various magazines. This room also has an armchair, a stool, a sink and a paper dispenser.
Egg donor facilities
IVF Spain Madrid has an area within the clinic for those women who are going to donate their eggs to avoid meeting the patients. This area is accessed through another door located on the same street and down some stairs.
In the egg donor area, there is an individual waiting room with two black chairs and a glass table. In addition, there is a reception on the left and an exclusive consultation for donors.
Also, the doctor responsible for the donor cycle, and the donor coordinator is Dr. Maria Calomarde.
Furthermore, IVF Spain Madrid has its own computer system for assigning donors. This assignment is made by the medical team based on physical characteristics and blood group, as established by Law 14/2006 on Assisted Human Reproduction Techniques. In addition, and if there are several possible candidates, IVF Spain Madrid also takes into account a form in which patients indicate preferences on physical features, education, and other aspects not covered by the legislation.
How is the first visit?
The first visit at IVF Spain Madrid lasts approximately 3 and a half hours, half of which will be with the gynecologist and half with the patient care staff (APIS).
On this first visit to the clinic, patients are advised to bring all previous medical history, tests performed, analyses, etc. and all of this will be evaluated by the doctor.
The cost of this first consultation is 180 euros for international patients and 140 euros for national patients and includes basic analysis for men and women, ultrasound, cytology and transfer test. This cost will be deducted from the final budget of the treatment if it is carried out in IVF Spain Madrid.
However, IVF Spain Madrid also offers a first informative visit free of charge.
The seminogram is not included in the price of the first visit to IVF Spain Madrid but costs 100 euros including the freezing. It is also possible to perform an advanced seminogram, which includes the sperm fragmentation test. Its price is 200 euros and also includes the freezing of the sample.
Once the patients have gone to the gynecologist, she has explained the treatment according to the results, consent, etc. it is time to go to APIS. They will be in charge of explaining the budgets and the methodology of the treatment.
Another option is to make the first visit to IVF Spain Madrid by video call. In this case, this consultation is only informative and has no cost. However, if international patients decide to make the first visit, the procedure is the same as if they were nationals.
Finally, IVF Spain Madrid has treatment financing options for national patients, but not for international patients.

Success rates
The Spanish Fertility Society is in charge of compiling the results of all the Spanish assisted reproduction clinics every year and making a statistical analysis. In fact, the SEF is the only scientific and independent organization of the clinics that collects and publishes these data in an objective manner.
Although our analysis of this clinic was carried out in 17th November, 2020, we have to indicate that the last report published by the SEF shows the success rates obtained in the year 2018 (National Activity Register 2018-SEF Register).
