Any pregnant woman who contracts listeriosis, even with virtually no or only mild symptoms, can transmit the infection to the foetus. This could have serious consequences for the pregnancy, as listeria infection can lead to stillbirth or risk of premature delivery. It is also possible that the baby may die after birth.
This will depend on when the pregnant woman contracted the listeria infection. In addition, it will be crucial to know whether early diagnosis and treatment have been achieved.
