When a woman has a multiple pregnancy due to fertility treatments and/or division of the embryos in the uterus, it is usual to make an embryo reduction so that only two or three babies are born at the most.
Pregnancies with twins or triplets usually have a good prognosis if the woman is young and in good health. However, the greater the number of developing fetuses, the greater the risk of complications, such as low birth weight, premature delivery, cardiac problems in the mother, preeclampsia, etc.
