When a woman has multiple ovulations, the eggs released from the ovaries can be fertilized by different sperm. For this reason, multiple ovulation creates a greater chance of multiple pregnancy.
In assisted reproduction treatments, medication is administered to the patients to stimulate egg production and thus ensure higher success rates. Therefore, in these situations there is also a greater risk of a twin pregnancy.
