Amongst the causes thay may provoke premature ovarian failure (POF), genetical and chemical (chemotherapy, radiotherpay) causes, and also diseases that induce it, such as nervous anorexia, diabetes, anemia, and familiar history.
The most common treatment is the hormone replacement therapy, using either pills or patches of estrogen and progesterone, although sometimes testosterone is also added to the mix. Horomonal imbalances may provoke osteoporosis. To prevent it, a healthy diet and active lifestyle are highly advisable.
For women with POF wishing to be a mother, egg donation is a succesful and recommendable therapeutical option.
