In artificial insemination (IUI), fertilization of the egg by the sperm takes place in the Fallopian tubes. This means that, once the semen is introduced into the uterus, the sperm must move on their own towards the tubes, where the egg is waiting to be fertilized.
Therefore, a prerequisite for IUI is that the fallopian tubes are permeable, i.e., that they allow the sperm to pass through them.
