How a sperm gets to an egg

As you can see in this picture, after ejaculation takes place inside the vagina, sperms go through the cervix, the uterine cavity, and the Fallopian tube. Throughout this long journey, sperms find various barriers. For this reason, out of the 250 millions of sperm that enter the vagina, only a few are able to meet the egg and fertilize it.

pH, white blood cells, and cervical mucous are some of the obstacles that the sperm will have to overcome during their first minutes inside the woman's body.
