Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. This infection is not contracted by direct contact, but is caused by handling cat feces.
Other possible routes of toxoplasmosis infection include eating raw meat or contaminated and/or poorly washed vegetables. Toxoplasma can also be acquired through a blood transfusion from a donor with this infection or through the placenta during pregnancy.
