ICSI as a solution for male infertility

The ICSI technique consists of microinjecting the sperm directly into the egg. It is an IVF process, but it is the embryologist himself who introduces the sperm. Therefore, it is not necessary for the sperm to move properly. In addition, the ICSI technique has the advantage that only as many sperm are needed as eggs have been obtained and are to be fertilized.

For this reason, IVF-ICSI is the solution for those men diagnosed with an absence of sperm in the ejaculate (azoospermia) or sperm motility problems. Other situations in which the ICSI technique is usually recommended is for patients who have a frozen sperm sample, either because they have undergone a vasectomy or because of cancer treatment.
