Although, again, it varies from woman to woman, they usually disappear entirely throughout the 3rd week postpartum.

If hCG levels continue being present beyond this time, it may indicate the presence of placental tissue in the womb, a condition that can lead to late postpartum hemorrhage. The most severe cases can be treated by curettage.
