Hey, my boyfriend did a seminogram and it shows abnormal findings… the following are the results he got:
Semen volume: 3.5 ml (normal parameters = 2.6 ml)
Semen pH: 7.5 (7.2-8.00)
Sperm concentration: 13,500,000 (> 20.000.000)
Sperm motility 62% (>60%)
The only thing I understand by seeing that results is that he’s got a low concentration, but I can’t see any other problem. BTW, I’ve been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries, but mu hormone levels are correct. He’s 34 and I’m 31.
My question whether I could achieve a natural pregnancy bearing our situation in mind. Would it be very difficult? If so, what fertility treatment could we undergo? AI maybe?
Thanks!09/23/2015 at 8:30 amPublicidad
As you rightly said, sperm concentration is shown altered in the seminogram results. According to the WHO criteria, results below 15 million sperm per ml are qualified as abnormal. In this particular case, the pathology is known as “oligospermia” or “oligozoospermia”, as it’s related to sperm concentration.
Oligospermia can cause trouble conceiving naturally. Besides, polycystic ovaries may be an extra problem to achieve a natural pregnancy in your case. For these reasons, the best thing you could do is visiting a specialist if you’ve been for over a year TTC with no luck so far. Nevertheless, you could resort to assisted reproductive technology even before 1 year, since you’ve already been diagnosed with a fertility problem.
For polycystic ovaries, the best solution would be a controlled ovarian stimulation in order to monitor your fertile days. If you undergo artificial insemination by partner, he will be asked to deliver a semen sample and it will be placed into your uterus straightaway during your most fertile days. AI is a very simple technique that may increase greatly your chances of getting pregnant.
