Pregnancy with retroverted uterus

    Julian Y.

Hello, I’ve just visited my gyn for the first time and to my surprise she gave me the news that I have a tilted uterus. To be honest, I’m in disbelief now… can’t stop looking for information on this birth defect and I just arrived here. I’m still young and not planning motherhood now, but I’d like to in the future. Does having a retroverted uterus mean I’m infertile by default or do I still have a chance to become a mother? Thanks!

  2. Dear Julian Y.,

In principle having a tilted or retroverted uterus does not make you infertile by default. In fact, there is no reason why it should be a problem for you to get pregnant naturally, neither during pregnancy.

It is true that there was a time when some specialists thought it could be a problem for women to achieve pregnancy successfully, but recent research has shown that this belief was not true. Many women with a tipped uterus have become pregnant successfully, without complications throughout the 9 months of pregnancy.

I hope I have been able to help,

  3. Hello Julian Y

In most women, the uterus slightly anteverted (forward) towards the bladder whereas in some, it tilts retroverted (backward) towards the spine. A tilted uterus has no impact on the conception. Some anatomical issues like uterus scars, pelvic infection, scar tissue around the Fallopian tubes may have an impact in conceiving. Any negative impact of a tilted uterus will go off during the second trimester of pregnancy. As the baby grows in the first trimester, the uterus expands in the pelvic area and by 13th week the uterus pop up out of the pelvic region and into the abdomen to accommodate the fetus. During this time, a retroverted uterus becomes upwards as such in other women.

You have all the possibilities to become a mother and Good luck.
