I’m from Somerville, Massachusetts and I’ve been recently confirmed about infertility. I’m very sad but I’m sure I want to have a child with my husband, so I’m decided to use donor eggs. I’d like to start a donor insemination, but I’m not quite sure how many info about the donor can I get. I know there are mainly two types of sperm donation, the anonymous and the non-anonymous one, but I’d like to delve deeper into both of them, so if anyone could kindly help me, I’d really appreciate it. Any help will be very helpful really.
Thanks very much, this means a lot to meOctober 6, 2015 at 4:48 pm
You’re right, mainly there are two types of sperm donation in the US: anonymous and known donation. While the former means it is the sperm donor agency or clinic who chooses the donor and the intended parents do not get any info about him, in the latter case the parents can even get to know him in person.
But there is a kind of “intermediate” type of donation known as “semi-known donation”. In this case, although the intended parents do not get any identificable information about the donor profile, they can find out about his physical features (e.g. height, eye and hair color…), medical history, intellectual skills, etc.
Of course, the total cost of the treatment will be more expensive if you choose known donation instead of anonymous donation, but the choice is up to you. Here I give you some links that may be of interest in case you want to find detailed information about this topic:
I strongly recommend you to read them carefully, I’m sure they’ll be helpful. Anyway, you should bear in mind that listening to the expert opinion is essential in every case, so seek health care always.
