PGD to detect genetic diseases in embryos

Genetic information or DNA is located in the chromosomes and the genes. Potential alterations in genetic information may lead to the development of severe disorders or even to death.

This type of problems can be detected with PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis), which can be done in two different ways:

Genetic analysis
to detect diseases that could affect one or several genes.
Chromosomal analysis
to detect disorders that could affect the number or structure of chromosomes.

Thanks to PGD, selecting only healthy embryos is possible. In other words, this technique allows patients with genetic or chromosomal diseases to have healthy children.
