First steps of ICSI

To carry out an ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), the first steps involve:

  1. Ovarian stimulation: Fertility drugs are administered to the intended mother so that she produces multiple eggs.
  2. Egg retrieval: It is the process by which the eggs produced are collected.
  3. Denudation: After retrieving the egg, the cells that surround them are removed in order to make the manipulation process easier. It allows the specialist to determine their level of maturity as well.

  4. Sperm capacitation: The sperm sample is prepared by selecting the best sperm to be microinjected.
