Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

The main particularity of ICSI occurs when egg insemination to allow the ovum and the sperm to fuse is done. To that end, an egg is held with a needle called holding so that the sperm is injected into it by microinjection.

Once the sperm cell is inside the oocyte, the needle is carefully removed to avoid causing any damage to the egg cell.

Then, the egg is left in culture for fertilization to hopefully occur, giving therefore rise to a new being.
