Prices of the assisted reproduction treatments

Infertility treatments are expensive, due to the complex techniques and the medical instruments required.

It’s difficult to find a list of the prices of the main assisted reproduction techniques. Clinics don’t usually tell the prices until the first or second visit has been carried out and they have an approximate diagnosis of each patient.

Assisted reproduction techniques

In the following article the prices of the main treatments will be presented. However, it is important to note that prices vary according to each clinic and the specific variations of each technique. Plus, unexpected events may occur during the performance of some of the reproductive treatment, causing the prices to change.

Price of artificial insemination (AI)

Artificial insemination with partner’s sperm (AIH):
It is a simple procedure that requires no special instrumentation so its price ranges from € 600 and € 1,000. Costs include:

Artifical insemination with donor’s sperm (AID)
Artificial insemination with donor’s sperm has an added cost because the patient has to resort to the seminal donation. We speak of a value of between 800 € and 1,700 €.

  • Controls during ovarian stimulation.
  • Analysis needed for donation.
  • Donor’s compensation.
  • Insemination.
  • Analysis beta-hCG (Pregnancy test).

Price in vitro fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization:
IVF involves the fertilization of the egg by the sperm ex vivo, that is, in the laboratory. Medical instruments and special incubators are required. This is what mainly increases the cost of the treatment. The value of this technique is between € 3,000 and € 4,000 and includes:

IVF with egg donation:
As is the case of AI, the price rises if it’s necessary to resort to spem donors because of lack or deterioration of one’s own eggs. The cost is around € 6000 € 7000.

  • Controls during ovarian stimulation of the donor.
  • Donor’s follicle puncture.
  • Donor’s compensation.
  • Sperm processing.
  • In vitro fertilization.
  • Embryo culture.
  • Recipient’s induction.
  • Embryo transfer to recipient.

Price ICSI

ICSI
During the process of ICSI, sperm is introduced into the egg through a complex system of microinjection. The management of the tools requires some skill and special care and delicacy. The price of ICSI treatment varies between € 4,000 and € 5,500.

  • Controls during ovarian simulation.
  • Follicle puncture, oocyte extraction.
  • Sperm processing.
  • ICSI.
  • Embryo culture.
  • Embryo transfer.

ICSI with egg donation:
If donated gametes are required, the procedure can cost between 7,000 € and 8,500 €

  • Controls during ovarian stimulation of the donor.
  • Donor’s follicle puncture.
  • Donor’s compensation.
  • Sperm processing.
  • ICSI.
  • Embryo culture.
  • Recipient’s induction.
  • Embryo transfer to recipient.

ICSI with PGD (Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis)
In cases of women over 40 years, whose probability of genetic erosion is high, and in cases of a history of severe genetic diseases, the embryos has to be genetically tested.

This process is very complex and delicate so its cost is quite high. Furthermore, the price of the treatment increases according to the number of embryos that have to be studied. The prices range from 9.000€ up.

  • Controls during ovarian stimulation.
  • Follicle puncture, oocyte extraction.
  • Sperm processing.
  • ICSI.
  • Embryo culture.
  • Blastomere biopsy on day 3.
  • Genetic analysis embryo cell.
  • Embryo transfer.

This price list is merely informative. The costs vary depending on the clinic. The basic services of the techniques have been named. However, the costs of the hormonal medication, which are usually not included in the price, must be added.
