Is there any age limit for becoming a single mother?

By Marta Barranquero Gómez B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).

No, there is no established maximum age to become a single mother. However, it should not be forgotten that age is a very important factor for female fertility and for the success of assisted reproduction treatments.

Therefore, despite the fact that there is nothing established in the Spanish legislation, private fertility clinics agreed years ago to establish a maximum age of 50 years to carry out an assisted reproduction treatment.

However, if the fertility treatment is to be carried out by Social Security, the age limit is usually set at 40, although it will depend on the Autonomous Community.
