What fertility treatments are recommended for single women?

In general, women who are looking to become single mothers come to assisted reproduction centrers for donor sperm. Most of them have not tried natural reproduction and therefore cannot be said to have a sterility problem.

If we take this maxim into account, we could say that the technique indicated for these women is intrauterine insemination with donor sperm (IUID). This is a technique in which the gametes are synchronized, so that the woman's ovulation is controlled to coincide with the intrauterine placement of the best fraction of donor sperm. The number of times this technique is repeated if gestation is not achieved depends on the protocols of the different centers, although it is usually 3 to 6 inseminations.

However, we know many things about human reproduction, so depending on the circumstances of each woman, the indication may change and require another technique.

In all cases, before performing an insemination, hormonal tests, a tubal patency test and, depending on the center, a karyotype must be performed. The results of these tests may indicate the need for , such as the presence of a low ovarian reserve, an impairment of tubal patency or an alteration in the karyotype.

Despite all the above, we must not forget that age is the most important prognostic factor in Human Reproduction, both natural and in Assisted Reproduction techniques, so that, even if there is no cause that indicates an In Vitro Fertilization, if the woman's age is advanced, we must explain the expected pregnancy rates of each of the two techniques and that she freely informed, decide which of the two she wants to perform.
