Michelle Lorraine Embleton, biochemist at inviTRA, explains in this video about the use of donor sperm to perform IUI for women in a same sex female relationship. As Michelle says:
For IUI, the women becoming the mother undergoes mild ovarian stimulation with hormonal medication to mature and develop one or two of her eggs. This process will be monitired using ultrasound check ups and when ready, ovulation will be induced by a hormone shot. When ovulation occurs the insemination takes place. The sperm is sample is previously prepared and capacited in the labortory and inserted into the woman's uterus via a cather. Fertilization and implantation can then take place. After the 2 week wait, or beta wait, the pregnancy test will be performed.
Aritifical insemination is a relatively simple technique performed in the clinic and doesn´t required anesthesia. You can go home and carry on your normal life after the procedure.
