Last Update: 03/14/2022

Rectocele, also called posterior uterine prolapse is the term used when the rectum falls into the vagina due to a decrease in the tension of the ligaments that separate them. As a consequence of this condition, the patient may have difficulty evacuating the intestines.

In addition, women with a rectocele may feel pressure in the vagina, constipation, and in more severe cases, there may be vaginal bleeding.

The most common causes of the appearance of rectocele are births and conditions that put pressure on the supporting tissue of the pelvic area.
