Andropause or male menopause is the term used to refer to male aging at the reproductive level. Andropause can be compared to menopause in women, although there are some differences.
It is most common to opt for androgen replacement therapy to combat the symptoms of male aging. This hormone treatment can be administered orally, intramuscularly or topically by means of a gel applied to the arms, back and abdomen.
However, it is essential that men meet certain requirements before starting testosterone therapy:
- Blood hormone analysis in the male should confirm a deficit in the amount of testosterone.
- The man should manifest typical symptoms of andropause.
- Therapy should always be carried out under strict medical supervision.
