One of the main concerns about baby-led weaning (BLW) is whether infants may have an increased risk of choking and suffocation. Therefore, it is essential to accompany the baby at all times while eating, to offer foods of the right size, shape and soft consistency, and to never offer forbidden foods.
With the necessary information and precautions, studies show that BLW babies choke just as much as babies who take mashed foods.
However, some families choose to be trained in pediatric first aid in order to know how to deal with any type of accident that may happen with the baby (food-related or not).
