According to the definition provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), family planning encompasses all processes aimed at controlling future reproductive outcomes. Therefore, the main objectives of family planning are the ability to choose the most appropriate time to have a baby, the ability to decide the number of children, and the interval of time between pregnancies.
Additionally, family planning includes other relevant aspects such as the following:
- Sexual education.
- Prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
- Counseling before conception, during pregnancy, and at childbirth.
- Treatment for infertility.
