Are hCG levels higher with twins?

By Andrea Rodrigo B.Sc., M.Sc. (embryologist).
Last Update: 10/20/2017

Yes, hCG levels are indeed higher when a woman is pregnant with multiples. If you take a test too early and get a positive result, it might be a clue that you are having twins, but it should be clear that it does not mean that you are having twins by default. Sometimes, being able to get a positive so early can be due to a simply normal fluctuation in hormone production.
