    1. Good morning!

I am an older single woman and really am desperate to have a child. I´ll be 46 in December. What do you think my chances are?

      • Hi Masiemaybe

As long as you are in good health there is no reason why you shouldn’t become a mother at 46! Plenty of women in their forties, who perhaps have concetrated on careers beforehand, decide to start a family at this time in their lives.

The main problem is the quality of a woman’s eggs does dimish greatly with age, and at 46 you are likely to have a poor ovarian reserve. But this is where assisted reproduction comes in with many techniques that can help and you can always use donor eggs if needed. In our article Pregnancy over the age of 40, we have information and advice that may be of use to you.

You also mention that you will be a single mother, so donated sperm will be of importance to you. You can read more about reproductive options for single mothers in the following article: How to be a single mother.

I hope this answers your questions and wish you luck in becoming a mother.

        All the best!
