Effects of intercourse 5 days after IVF embryo transfer

Hello, embryo transfer was on April, 1 and we haven’t had sex ever since. It’s day 5 post embryo transfer but I’m wondering when will we get the green light to have sex after IVF. Is the abstinence period too long? I hope it isn’t… Thank you and regards.

although there is not a fixed period of time, the truth is that most expert recommend an abstinence period of around 1-2 weeks. Uterine contractions associated to orgasms may have a negative impact on early stages of embryo implantation.

Moreover, penetration causes a micro-trauma on your ovaries, and provided that your ovary is more sensitive than normal due to ovulation induction, sex can become kind of painful. Besides, there is an increased risk of getting an urinary infection, since your vaginal flora and body’s defenses are altered during these days due to fertility treatment.
