Hi there,
my wife went for egg collection today and she had 8 eggs retrieved, do you think this is a good first step toward pregnancy? Is there any ideal IVF egg retrieval number?
I’m scared we might end up needing donor eggs to have a baby…
Pls help!

women whose response to ovarian stimulation medications is normal usually get an average amount of 6-10 eggs, which is considered to be the standard, adequate quantity of eggs for egg harvesting. If you got 8 eggs, you are expected to obtain a sufficient amount of embryos so that your treatment is successful; in other words, to achieve pregnancy.
Be it as it may, you will have to wait until the number of eggs obtained, fertilization and evaluation of prospective embryos is done, this way being able to determine whether you may need donor eggs or not. However, as I mentioned earlier, the most common is getting viable embryos, that is, able to implant if you got 8 eggs retrieved after egg collection, which means the most probable is that you don’t need to use donor eggs.
I hope I have clarified your concerns,
Regards
