Where is the pelvic floor located?

To perform Kegel exercises correctly, it is essential to know how to locate and contract the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles support the bladder, rectum and uterus (in the case of women), so it is very important to keep the pelvic floor in good shape to avoid problems related to pelvic floor dysfunction.

A widespread recommendation for recognising the muscles to be contracted during Kegel exercises is to imagine that you want to cut off the urine stream. Kegel exercises should not be performed to actually stop urination, as this can lead to the bladder not emptying completely.
