Pre-testicular causes that can affect sperm production and lower the sperm count in the ejaculate are those affecting hormone levels above all. In this sense, we can mention the following examples:
- Bad lifestyle habits
- Alcohol and drug abuse
- Unhealthy eating habits
- Anabolic steroid use
- Exposure to environmental toxic substances and radiation
- High stress levels
Fortunately, when oligospermia is due to any of these causes, it could be cured after a few months following a healthier lifestyle.
