If the pregnant woman is in week 37 of pregnancy, she may undergo a Group B streptococcus test. This is a screening to check whether or not the woman is a carrier of this microorganism (since it can be present in the woman without causing any symptoms).
If the woman is a carrier, antibiotics will be administered during labor to reduce the risk of passing this microorganism to the baby, as it could cause serious complications such as meningitis.
In addition, if the baby is in a breech presentation, during week 37 of pregnancy, the woman may be offered an external cephalic version to try to turn the baby and place it in a cephalic (head-down) position.
