The baby at 38 weeks of pregnancy is about 49 centimeters long and weighs about 3200 grams. As the time of delivery is near, the baby's appearance at this week is very similar to what it will look like at the time of birth.
The lanugo and vernix caseosa have begun to disappear, so the baby's skin will look smoother and pinker. However, there may still be traces of vernix caseosa at the time of birth, and even some lanugo (which eventually falls off on its own).
On the other hand, meconium, i.e. what will be the baby's first stool, is accumulating in the baby's intestine.
