By the time a girl reaches the sixth month of pregnancy, her ovaries contain up to about 6 million follicles. However, this number of eggs will not be there when the birth occurs.
At this time, the baby's ovaries will have about 1-2 million eggs. This number will decrease throughout life until it is completely depleted once menopause is reached.
